Making a Difference!!

There are more than 20,000 midwives in Guatemala and approximately 75% of all births are mediated by a midwife. Midwives are important members of the community and provide critical care in rural communities where access to conventional health clinics may not exist.

We are midwives who share our skills with other midwives. We honor the traditions and culture of our communities. And we are dedicated to improving our training and our skills to provide the best possible care for women, children and their families. We address the issues of poverty, malnutrition, and discrimination that is too common in our communities. And while all of us speak Spanish, many of us speak one of the local mayan languages, such as chuj,  Kʼicheʼ  Tzʼutujil, Kaqchikel, Q'anjobal, Mam, Poptiʼ and others.

We thank the Rotary Foundation and the support provided by the Rotary Club of Guatemala City and Nashua New Hampshire, USA. and for your generous contributions.

We also thank MDF Instruments for their generous support by providing our midwives with quality stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs. A company with a heart!!   https://mdfinstruments.com/pages/crafting-wellness

“When a woman births, not only is a baby being born, but so is a mother.  How we treat her will affect how she feels about herself as a mother and as a parent. Be gentle. Be kind. Listen.”
